Superintendent's Corner

Mrs. Maureen McCann

The opening of the 2018-2019 school year will truly be a new year for us all. I am honored and privileged to announce that the members of the Alpine Board of Education have expressed their faith in my abilities and have appointed me to the position of Superintendent/Principal. The Alpine School has always offered me the freedom to create new programs, strengthen existing programs, support our teachers, and most importantly allowed me daily contact with the students. The support and enthusiasm I have witnessed over the past 19 years has made it easy for me to accept this new challenge. The generosity and caring of the entire Alpine Community, has allowed our district to experience much growth and positive change. One of the biggest changes was our building addition and updating of our facilities to make sure that the students of the Alpine School are prepared upon graduation to continue to excel in high school and beyond academically, emotionally, and socially.

The summer months have been spent on planning, scheduling, and preparation for our doors to open on September 5th for all of our students. All of the “behind the scenes” logistics are in place thanks to the efforts of our dedicated staff especially: our new Business Administrator-Olga Yarmolina, Technology Technician-Vadim Vitkovsky, Supervisor of Student Services- Jennifer Goodell, School Secretary- Mrs. Nancy Smith, Ms. Suzanne Mulvihill who assisted me in my role as Acting Board of Education Secretary, Lead Teacher-Mr. Philip Lockwood, Business Office/ Purchasing - Mrs. Virginia Hubbard, and of course our Custodian-Mr. Ruben Melendez.

For the current school year we welcome our students back with many exciting opportunities. We will be offering new choices for the enrichment/intervention period for the middle school. Alpine will be implementing a whole new program for the total wellness of each student K-8. Mr. Vikovsky has been hard at work getting the Mac Lab up and running and has all the Chrome Book Carts ready to go. In addition, we will continue with our comprehensive curriculum offerings and our extensive enrichment/intervention opportunties for all students. Our goal at the Alpine school will continue to be the strengthening of a collaborative atmosphere, dedicated to always working in the best interests of all our students allowing each of them to be the best they can be. It takes more than our teachers, staff, and administration to achieve this goal. We are only part of the equation for success. It has always been our parents and community that partner with the Alpine School to balance the equation for success. I look forward to continuing to work together to attain our shared goal of excellence for our students. Alpine has always been an outstanding district in the county and state and we will carry that tradition forward.

Thank you for your coninued support,

Maureen McCann

Superintendent/Principal
