Dear Parents,
This letter provides you with important information regarding Middle School French.
MATERIALS
You must bring the following materials to class with you every day:
*Textbook (covered)
*Workbook
*Pens (black or blue ink only) and pencils.
*5 subjects notebook (The notebook must be accurate, neatly kept and organized. I may check the notebooks periodically)
*French pocket dictionary.
Grading Policy:
Class participation and homework, Quizzes & Chapter Tests
Homework:
Homework is an opportunity to practice skills and reinforce concepts taught in the daily lesson. We will always go over the corrections together before we move on to the new lesson. They will usually have homework every night and weekend. It is due the following school day at the beginning of the class period. Homework must be done neatly. Parents, if you feel comfortable helping your students go over the homework, please do so. Students will be required to keep a notebook for notes on vocabulary and sample done in the daily lesson. These notes can be helpful during homework time. Incomplete assignments will lead to lower grades.
Quizzes: Quizzes are an opportunity to evaluate progress with new material. Sometimes we will have timed no-notice “pop” quizzes during class.
Tests: Tests are an opportunity to measure achievement. Tests are announced about one week in advance, and are worth 100 points. Tests will include a listening, reading and writing, proficiency (small writing piece) and oral part. All quizzes and tests must be signed by parents the following day.
Cheating: Explaining a concept or the step-by-step process to another student is not cheating (Homework and class work). Copying another person’s homework paper without this kind of assistance is cheating, and will earn a zero, plus a note or call to parents. Cheating on tests or quizzes is an automatic zero grade.
Projects: Depending on the scope of the project, each will count as a quiz.
Ways to get help:
Class time: The best time to get help when they don’t understand is to ask right away during class. I will stop and help them (and others who are thinking about asking!)
After school: I am usually in my classroom after school until 3:20pm. They must let me know in advance if they are coming.
Absence
Missing class can quickly make them fall behind. They miss the opportunity to go over their homework corrections, plus the important information from the daily lesson and practice. They will be required to read the lesson text and complete the same homework. Check with a friend for other notes. It is their responsibility to pick up absent work and turn it on time. Work that was collected when they were absent is due the first day they return to school.
Tardiness: If they miss class for an excused reason (doctor, orthodontist, etc), they must bring their homework to the classroom by the end of the day. Late work is 50% off. If they become chronically tardy for unexcused reasons (oversleeping, lingering in the hall, etc), they will stay after school for detention. (Time based on how late they are).
Classroom Discipline
*Listen carefully and follow directions.
*Do not talk to others during teaching time.
*Respect yourself and others; absolutely no “put-downs”.
*Come prepared everyday with textbook, homework, workbook, notebook, dictionary, assignment book, loose-leaf paper, pencils, and pens.
